Business Education at TSPA

At TSPA, we go far beyond teaching you about cosmetology, massage therapy, esthetics and nails. We also teach you how to market yourself and run a business.

Part of our business education program involves designing your own salon or spa, and branding it. We feel that “If you dream it, you can achieve it!” Our students have come up with some amazing designs and branding schemes over the years, and we are confident that some will become reality.

Our students enjoy presentation day, when everyone gets to see the creative branding and designs. That’s all great, but we also teach our students how to come up with a budget and business plan in order to make their dream a reality some day.

This is not only a fun assignment, it also teaches our students what it takes to launch and run a successful business. It also allows our students to unleash their creativity and imagination, away from the salon training area.

This is another example of how TSPA  programs are designed to train students for much more than passing the state boards. We develop the entire salon/spa professional with great technical ability, business & marketing training, and the guest handling skills that are in high demand by top salons and spas. We are growing salon and spa leaders, one student at a time.

Massage Therapy – A Rewarding Profession

10 reasons Massage Therapy could be the right career for you!

If you are considering becoming a massage therapist, you probably already know that there are many benefits of a massage therapy career.  For those considering a career in this profession you may have been asked, “why do you want to become a massage therapist?”  For most the answer is simple and straight forward. They like to help people feel good!  If you are serious about earning a Certificate or Diploma in Massage Therapy there will be a number of rewarding opportunities available after graduating from The Salon Professional Academy.  Being able to provide a better life for yourself and your family are just a few of many reasons why people enjoy entering into this profession.  Learn more about the massage therapy field and find out what makes this career so rewarding with these 10 reasons to become a massage therapist.

1. Massage therapists graduate with the skills they need to get a job right away

The Salon Professional Academy’s curriculum involves a lot of hands-on training. Students are trained in musculature, anatomy, and multiple massage therapy techniques including therapeutic, deep tissue, sports massage and much more. We want our students to be capable of more than just spa massage.  By the time TSPA massage therapy students graduate, they have enough practical experience to work at hospitals, clinics, chiropractic practices, spas, or even out of their own homes.

2. Massage therapists are licensed professionals

Most states require massage therapists to be licensed. To become a licensed massage therapist, one must complete a certification or degree program at a massage therapy school like The Salon Professional Academy, and obtain hundreds of hours of practice. Massage therapy has become a respected profession over the years because of the stringent requirements for becoming a massage therapist.

3. Massage therapists have the option to work in exciting and exotic locations

Massage therapists have the option to work in exciting and exotic locations

Tourist spots and cruise ships all over the world employ massage therapists making this a great occupation for those who enjoy working in beautiful surroundings. Those who don’t mind relocating may get the opportunity to work in a resort on a tropical beach or a lodge surrounded by snow-covered mountains.  For those who enjoy peaceful and relaxing environments this may sound like a dream come true, and for a number of happy professionals in this field it is.

4. Massage therapists can set their own hours

Many massage therapists are self-employed allowing them to set appointments around their own schedule. Being able to make your own schedule is a huge advantage for most who are considering becoming a massage therapist.

5. Massage therapists work in relaxing environments

Massage therapists spend their working hours in a peaceful environment surrounded by scented candles, soft towels, and soothing music. The ambiance makes it a relaxing experience not only for the client, but for the massage therapist too.

6. Massage therapists help people

Massage therapists provide an invaluable service to people who are in pain, recovering from injuries, or experiencing stress. Massage therapy speeds up the healing process, improves circulation, and can even restore emotional balance.

7. Clients look forward to seeing their massage therapist

Whether the reason is medicinal, therapeutic, or just a special occasion, people look forward to getting massages. Unlike going to the dentist or doctor, seeing a massage therapist is a positive experience associated with feeling good.

8. Massage therapists are physically active

Massage therapists work on their feet and engage their entire body when giving a massage. The nature of the work is physically demanding, and as a result, many massage therapists are in great shape.

9. Licensed massage therapists are in high demand

Because the value of massage therapy is becoming more widely-recognized, job growth over the next decade is predicted to grow considerably according to the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics. New massage therapy jobs are constantly being created in places such as clinics, chiropractic practices, spas and resorts.

10. Massage therapists can become their own boss

Happy Graduation!

First day of Massage Therapy Class!

One of our biggest celebrations is the JUMP party, where we celebrate students who have either qualified or are jumping to the next level on the Salon floor. Qualifying and Jumping are based on several factors including number of services performed, number of referrals, number of pre-books, types of services, etc…  Jumping is a major achievement, so we CELEBRATE!

Sometimes it gets a little CRAZY, but our students have a blast and that’s what it’s all about!

In addition to Jump and Qualify recognition, students are also recognized for their achievements in retail sales and individual  service numbers.

TSPA Student Advisory Council

Student Advisory Council is a key component to the functioning of The Salon Professional Academy, bringing together student leaders and staff.

The philosophy of Student Advisory Council is “SAC is an organization of students who hold the common interest of serving as the driving forces in upholding and increasing school spirit, helping their fellow students voice concerns and ideas, and allowing members a chance to develop and use leadership skills in both the school and community.”

It is the fact that students engage each other in these skill-sets that establish the fundamental groundwork that is SAC.

There are staff members that are involved; however, they take minor roles. One student from each class (January Cosmo, March Cosmo, May Cosmo, July Cosmo, September Cosmo, November Cosmo, Esthetics, Massage Therapy, Nail Tech) is elected by their peers.

The key role of each elected member is to take responsibility for voicing their constituents (fellow students) concerns and ideas, as well as informing them about current endeavors within the school.

Student Advisory Council also teaches various lessons in time management, leadership and efficiency.

As a whole, Student Advisory Council helps all of the school system by bringing concerns and ideas to a neutral party, in order to affect positive change.  It also helps to build leadership skills and shape members into more mature and confident adults.
